A place steeped in history
Saint-Michel de Grandmont Priory is a former monastery founded in the 12th century by the Grandmontine religious order, known for its austere monastic rule. Nestled near Lodève in an oak forest, the priory is a Historic Monument and one of the few Grandmontine sites to retain its church, cloister and original convent buildings.
Architecture and spirituality
The church features a single nave with barrel vaulting, a semicircular apse and an architectural simplicity that reflects the way of life of its medieval inhabitants. The Romanesque cloister, unique in its preservation, invites reflection amid tranquil arches and columns.
Nature and prehistoric sites
Set within a large wooded park, the priory offers visitors the chance to encounter deer and hinds, explore prehistoric dolmens such as the renowned Coste-Rouge Dolmen, and wander among ancient burial sites.
An immersive walk through time
Your visit becomes a journey through time, from Neolithic monuments to medieval architecture and natural panoramas. Scenic trails provide views over the Hérault Valley and, on clear days, towards the Mediterranean Sea.
